Dominion Cinema Baby Club

Newbattle Terrace, EH10 4RT

A few cinemas around Edinburgh offer a baby friendly screenings, but the first one I have tried is the one at the independently owned Dominion Cinema in Morningside. Its a classic old cinema which has been. running since the 1930s.

The access to the cinema is not great for prams with a number of steps to get the pram up before getting through the doors. Once inside they also asked us to leave our prams in the lobby before going to the screen, so a top tip to have everything you might need easy to carry. We grabbed a popcorn and drink and headed down the stairs to the screen for our movie (Bridget Jones - Mad about the boy). Again a little challenging having steps to navigate while carrying a baby and popcorn! The screen was really comfortable with sofas for every seat. There was baby changing available right outside the screen which was really convenient, but it was a bit of a tight squeeze to change Grace in here. The changing table filled the width of the room when dropped down so I had to stand beside the table rather than in front of it.

During the film they dim the lights but leave them on low so you can still see to feed or get things out your bag. They also run subtitles on the film so you don't miss anything if theres babies crying. On our visit the screen was quite busy with babies but it was very relaxed, and lots of the seemed to drift off to sleep during the film.

Overall the Dominion is a lovely old cinema, full of character, but is a little tricky to navigate with the pram and baby. I really loved the baby cinema though so I'll definitely be back and will try out some of the other cinemas in Edinburgh to compare.

Have you tried other baby cinema experiences? Where is your favourite?
