Parent Rooms & Feeding Rooms

Edinburgh City Centre

For parents spending the day in the city centre it can sometimes be difficult to know where there are places to feed or change your little one outside of cafes and restaurants. Here are the details of a few places that are open and free to use for all parents.

  1. JoJo Maman Bébé

45A Hanover St, EH2 2PJ

Inside the JoJo Maman Bébé shop on Hanover Street there is a lovely community room. Accessing the store can be a little difficult with a pram as theres one step and the doors are heavy, but they do click all the way open and stay so if you open them up its easier to get the pram inside. Theres then a ramp inside to access the rest of the store.

This was my favourite of all the places I have visited to feed or change Grace in the city centre. The nursing and feeding room is calm and relaxing with a couple of comfy chairs. There is a playmat on the floor with some toys to keep toddlers entertained if you bring them with you too. The feeding room is separate from the toilet where there is a changing table. Its all very clean and welcoming. Theres a fountain to fill up water bottles too for thirsty breastfeeding mums.

  1. John Lewis Parent Room

St James Quarter, EH1 3AD

Accessed through the back of the audio visual department on the 5th floor in John Lewis you'll find their Parent Room.

It's a clean and bright room, with easy access automatic doors. Inside you'll find a sink and changing area, with a roll of disposable paper for hygienic covering of the mat.

To the side there is a nicely decorated cosy room with 2 nursing chairs. Its a lovely private place to sit and breastfeed while out shopping. A nice added touch of a water machine to rehydrate while feeding too.

  1. St James Centre Baby Rooms

St James Quarter, EH1 3AD

Located on level 3 of the shopping centre, you can find the baby rooms along at the toilets beside the Picardy lifts.

There are 2 baby rooms available here, the first on the right as you go along the corridor towards the toilets. There is a water refill machine right outside this room.

Inside its a very big and spacious room, with 2 sinks and changing areas. Theres plenty space for prams, however there are no chairs in this room for feeding.

The second baby room is further down the corridor, it is smaller with a sink and changing area with the addition of a toilet area in this one too.

Overall the baby rooms here are clean but very basic. As mentioned above, there are no chairs for feeding, however, there are some quiet benches along the walkway towards the toilets with a nice view out the windows over the city which you could use if you need to find a quiet spot to feeds.

  1. Boots

101-103 Princes St, EH2 3AA

Boots on Princes Street has a parent room at the back of the store. Its a little tricky to get a pram into as its down a narrow slope to the door, which if it's locked you need to back up and wait for it to be free.

The space has chairs for feeding and a sink and changing area. The lighting is pretty dingy and it didn't feel like the most warm space, but it was clean and had all the necessary space to breastfeed or change your little one.

Do you know of any other parent rooms in the city that I should try? Add it in the comments below.
